About LSHC Landlord’s Self-Help Centre (LSHC) is a specialty legal clinic that is part of the clinic system funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO). LSHC provides assistance to thousands of small landlords across Ontario every year. In addition to direct client services, LSHC develops educational resources, engages in law reform, and participates in community development initiatives. Role Overview
LSHC is seeking a Community Legal Worker / Licensed Paralegal to cover a maternity leave on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver frontline client services in housing law under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, and related legislation.
  • Draft legal documents, correspondence, and public legal education materials.
  • Participate in public legal education, community development, outreach, and law reform initiatives.
  • Collaborate as part of a team in a hybrid environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily onsite role within a hybrid environment.
  • Extended periods at a computer are required.
  • Competing demands may create periods of high pressure.

Contract Length / Onboarding Note:
This is a 20-month contract. The contract includes an initial overlap period with current staff to ensure proper onboarding and a smooth transition.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Paralegal Studies from an accredited Ontario college or university.
  • P1 Paralegal License and member who is active and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 3–5 years’ experience with a strong interest in housing law and frontline client service (transferable skills such as client service or legal research are also valued).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and comfort learning new software.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.

    Enhanced Qualifications (Optional / Preferred):

  • Fluency in French or another language is an asset, but not required.
  • Experience with social media, graphic design, or web development.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Experience writing for newsletters or publications.Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: $60,000–$70,000 per year, paid bi-weekly (commensurate with experience).
  • LSO dues reimbursed on a pro rata basis.
  • E&O (Errors and Omissions) insurance provided by LAO, covering legal clinic employees acting within the scope of their duties during their employment at LSHC.
  • Opportunities for fulfilling CPD requirements through the clinic system.
