I have a triplex which has been rented for quite sometime to the same three tenants. One of my tenants has brought in a friend to stay with him, as he had no place to go. After a while my tenants started noticing that, they had bed bugs. I told them that they would have do deal with this issue because it was them who brought them in. They are telling me that it’s my responsibility to deal with this issue. Is that true?

The landlord is responsible to maintain the rental property and ensure that it complies with health and housing standards, which includes pest infestations of any kind. You can only hold the tenant responsible if the tenant interferes with the extermination of the bed bugs by not allowing the landlord to prepare the unit for the extermination.
