Volunteering

Volunteers are an integral part of Landlord’s Self-Help Centre. Dedicated and community spirited individuals help LSHC operate effectively and efficiently while meeting the needs of our clients. They help us provide value for our members through their donation of time, ideas and skills.

Landlord’s Self-Help Centre regularly recruits volunteers to participate on various committees in an advisory capacity. Serving on a committee provides you with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the organization, learn about the issues we face and the policies that govern our operation. Ideally, volunteers seeking committee work would have skills, knowledge or a strong interest in the work of the various committees.

Board of Directors – The Board is comprised of ten volunteers, some represent our membership and others are skilled professionals who have taken an interest in the affairs of Landlord’s Self-Help Centre. Typically, a targeted recruitment strategy is used in which specific skills sets are identified and posted to the website as a candidate profile together with a job description, Board Application and FAQs.

LSHC is currently seeking candidates for an upcoming vacancy on the Board of Directors. We invite applications from volunteers with knowledge and expertise in the area human resource management. The ideal candidate will be positive, energetic and able to work cooperatively as part of a team. Experience with non-profit or community-based organizations and/or a connection to the residential rental business in Ontario would be an asset. To learn more about serving on the board and this particular campaign, view the post at https://landlordselfhelp.com/board-recruitment/.

Students – We occasionally recruit high school students to help with administrative tasks during the March break, summer break and throughout the year. LSHC is a non-profit corporation, therefore the hours spent volunteering with us may be used toward the community service hours Ontario high school students are required to complete prior to graduation.

Special Skills – We are always looking for volunteers with special skills. We have used volunteers to develop our logo, design the format for the Quarterly News; brochures and other printed materials as well as create components of our web site. We are currently seeking a graphic designer to help with several projects.

If you have some time to commit to Landlord’s Self-Help Centre and are interested in volunteering with us, complete the Volunteer Application and return it by fax to 416 504-1932.
